Geriatric Horse Care

With advances in medical care and nutrition, horses are living long and active lives.  As with all of our patients, regular wellness examinations form the foundation of care of our older patients.  Horses over 14 years of age are considered to be entering their senior years.  This is often the time that we start recognizing age related endocrine, musculoskeletal and dental problems with our patients.  We pay special attention to these areas and may utilize ancillary testing, which may include laboratory tests, radiography or ultrasound to access the health of your horse.  With proper nutrition and preventative medical care, many of our older patients are living very active healthy lives.  Please feel free to contact us with any of your questions regarding your horse.
